According to the newly
released 2010 Silicon Valley Index, "tracking job gains and losses is a
basic measure of economic health," and "most of the region's
losses were sustained in the last twelve months as regional residential
employment slipped 5.8 percent and the nation, 3.8 percent between December
2008 and 2009."
The Class XXI Fellows will tackle Silicon Valley job growth at their March

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES:
Teresa Briggs is the Managing Partner for Deloitte LLP’s Silicon Valley practice, located in San Jose. This practice currently includes 900 people serving Silicon Valley’s technology, clean tech and life sciences companies with competencies including consulting, accounting and auditing, tax and financial advisory. Briggs’ has more than 27 years of experience in local and national roles. She was a Mergers & Acquisitions partner serving one of the largest U.S.-based private equity investors, spent six years as the lead audit partner for a Fortune 50 company and currently is responsible for Deloitte’s consultative services to several high profile Silicon Valley companies. Briggs’ professional and community affiliations include American Leadership Forum – Silicon Valley Senior Fellow, Stanford Technology Ventures Program Board of Advisors, University of Arizona’s Eller College of Management Board of Advisors and Board Member of the Silicon Valley Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Board Member of The San Jose Tech Museum of Innovation.
Cindy Chavez is the Executive Director of Working Partnerships USA. Chavez’ work as an elected official and community and labor leader in San Jose has been marked by her ability to build new collaborations to create innovative policy. She served for eight years as a member of the San José City Council, the last two as Vice Mayor. As a full time elected representative, she maintained a reputation as an advocate for improving the quality of life in neighborhoods throughout San Jose. After her time on the City Council, Chavez founded and was principal of California Leadership Services, offering clients comprehensive and diversified consulting services issues such as government relations, organizational development and nonprofit management. Chavez has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors including Leader in Residence at her alma mater, San Jose State University; a research fellowship with the University of California, Santa Cruz's Center for Global International & Regional Studies; Silicon Valley Business Journal's Influential Women in Business, 2004; Martin Luther King Jr., Freedom Award, 2002; Silicon Valley Woman of Achievement, 1997; Outstanding Women of Silicon Valley, 1996; Blue Cross of California Achievement Award, 2006; City Year, Team Hero and Moccasin Awards, 2003, 2004; Housing Backbone Award from the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, 2005. She has served on numerous non-profit boards and is a Senior Fellow of the American Leadership Forum.
Phil Mahoney is Principal & Executive Vice President, Corporate & Institutional Services for Cornish & Carey Commerical. In his 28th straight year among Cornish & Carey Commercial’s elite list of top five producers, Mahoney has negotiated over 845 transactions totaling 43 million square feet of space valued at over $11.5 billion. Mahoney counts among his clients Fortune 500 firms seeking to expand, and start-up companies looking for that first facility. Clients from start-ups to Palm, NVIDIA, Hewlett Packard, NEC, Verisign, Agilent, BEA Systems and Network Appliance have relied heavily upon his expertise. Mahoney has been involved in some of the most significant purchases of commercial/industrial property in the history of Silicon Valley. Mahoney was named “Broker of the Year” for all of Silicon Valley for an unparalleled ten times including 2007. In 1995 he became one of the select “Hall of Fame” brokers of the Valley as elected by his peers as well as the youngest ever elected. The San Jose Business Journal rated Mahoney the “#1 Broker” for all of Silicon Valley from 1999-2001 and again in 2004, 2006 and 2007. He was the top producing broker in the nation in 2000 with 6 million square feet of transactions totaling $2.8 billion. Mahoney earned his degree in economics at Stanford University where he played varsity football. A native of Boston, he and his wife, Kelly, and three children now make their home in Los Altos Hills.
