DESCRIPTION:CEO DIEL Cohort 3 Affinity Group\nOver the course of the past two years\, ALF has been facilitating two groups of 20 nonprofit leaders who want to engage more deeply on the concepts of diversity\, inclusion\, equity\, and liberation (DIEL) and to explore what those ideas mean personally\, organizationally and for the nonprofit sector. With intention\, the group spent time personally exploring white supremacy culture and the personal biases they hold. They examined how the culture of white supremacy impacts the work and structure of their organizations as well as how the sector functions as a whole. The group asked itself: “If the leaders in this sector took this on personally and organizationally\, how would we know that there had been a shift in awareness and application?” Answer: An organization has answered for itself: what are we doing that perpetuates white supremacy culture and what can we do to dismantle racism? The third cohort will of this group will begin in September of 2020. Using the lens of faith\, this affinity group commits to shining a light on bigotry in all its forms and highlighting the power of our shared humanity; creating a space that allows for meaningful dialogue in order to heal the fracture of perceived difference; and educating and bringing awareness to critical issues facing our valley\, in particular the needs of those that are poor and homeless. DESCRIPTION:Event Description:\nIn his 2018 book Decolonizing Wealth: Indigenous Wisdom to Heal Divides and Restore Balance\, Edgar Villanueva draws from Native traditions to prescribe the medicine for restoring balance and healing our divides. Edgar calls on us to use our money as medicine\, replacing the “divide\, control\, exploit” paradigm with “connect\, relate\, belong.”  We invite Senior Fellows to engage in dialogue with Edgar on these concepts\, and explore how we as Senior Fellows practice our ALF values when it comes to investment and philanthropy. \nThis is a virtual event. Please register below. \n  \nAbout Edgar Villanueva:\nEdgar Villanueva is a globally-recognized expert on social justice philanthropy. Edgar serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of Native Americans in Philanthropy\, NDN Collective\, and is a Board Member of the Andrus Family Fund\, a national foundation that works to improve outcomes for vulnerable youth. \nEdgar currently serves as Senior Vice President at the Schott Foundation for Public Education where he oversees grant investment and capacity building supports for education justice campaigns across the United States. \nEdgar is the award-winning author of Decolonizing Wealth\, a bestselling book offering hopeful and compelling alternatives to the dynamics of colonization in the philanthropic and social finance sectors. \nIn addition to working in philanthropy for many years\, he has consulted with numerous nonprofit organizations and national and global philanthropies on advancing racial equity inside of their institutions and through their investment strategies. \nEdgar holds two degrees from the Gillings Global School of Public Health at The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.
