SUMMARY:ALF Political Perspective Dialogue Circle #2
DESCRIPTION:ALF Political Perspective Dialogue Circle #2\nVitriolic hate speech and divisive politics have created schisms in our country and across the globe.  Dialogue is a superior method for resolving gridlock. Dialogue can highlight our common ground\, help us understand our differences\, and encourage us to reserve judgment until we have considered a variety of ways to approach controversial issues. Through conversation\, we can practice the art of transformative dialogue\, a key tool that brings communities together.  Core to our beliefs and curriculum\, ALF encourages dialogue and creates a network where trust and candid conversations thrive. \nSession 2: First Tension Exploration: The Role of Government \nIf you have any questions regarding the ALF Political Perspective Dialogue Circle\, contact our Network Weaver\, Akemi Flynn at akemi@alfsv.org

SUMMARY:Youth In Crisis: What Can We Do?
DESCRIPTION:Youth In Crisis: What Can We Do?\nThe pandemic and calls for social justice are causing great distress for many of our youth. Along with confronting the usual challenges of childhood and adolescence\, they’re experiencing uncertainty regarding their education and isolation from their friends and community. The widespread and highly publicized protests for racial justice have compelled many of them to get involved. As recently reported on the front page of San Jose Mercury News (July 7\, 2020)\, our youth are increasingly experiencing higher levels of “anxiety and depression”. \nThe crisis may have a devastating impact on youth feeling alone and voiceless. What will be the effects on youth who have traditionally been most at risk? Can we re-imagine and redirect community resources in a way that will be more responsive to this crisis? Are there creative approaches to healing the stress that our children are experiencing? \nJoin us in dialogue with students\, service providers\, and educational advocates to explore how our community can support the emotional well-being of our youth. \n               \nFeaturing: \nLeon Beauchman (XX)\, Counselor\, East Side Union High School District; President\, Santa Clara County Alliance of Black Educators; and Former Board Member Santa Clara County Office of Education \nYouth Leaders from Californians for Justice\, led by Taryn Ishida (XXVIII) will share their experiences with distance learning and their recommendations for educators\, policy-makers\, and community leaders to support education equity and students’ social-emotional well-being. \nCatherine Aspiras\, Program Manager\, School Linked Services\, Santa Clara County \n

SUMMARY:CEO DIEL Cohort 1 Affinity Group
DESCRIPTION:CEO DIEL Cohort 1 Affinity Group\nOver the course of the past two years\, ALF has been facilitating two groups of 20 nonprofit leaders who want to engage more deeply on the concepts of diversity\, inclusion\, equity\, and liberation (DIEL) and to explore what those ideas mean personally\, organizationally and for the nonprofit sector. With intention\, the group spent time personally exploring white supremacy culture and the personal biases they hold. They examined how the culture of white supremacy impacts the work and structure of their organizations as well as how the sector functions as a whole. The group asked itself: “If the leaders in this sector took this on personally and organizationally\, how would we know that there had been a shift in awareness and application?” Answer: An organization has answered for itself: what are we doing that perpetuates white supremacy culture and what can we do to dismantle racism? The third cohort will of this group will begin in September of 2020. All three of these groups are closed groups. \nIf you have any questions regarding this Affinity Group\, please contact Jenny Niklaus\, Chief Impact Officer at jniklaus@alfsv.org

SUMMARY:White Leader Learning Circle
DESCRIPTION:White Leader Learning Circle\nThe intent of the White Leader Learning Circle is to provide a safe and brave space for white leaders to be in a dialogue about whiteness and the impact of white privilege historically and currently in communities of color. SUMMARY:ALF Focus Group: Deepening the work around race equity
DESCRIPTION:REGISTRATION IS LIMITED TO ALF SENIOR FELLOWS AND FELLOWS \nWhen Joe Jaworski founded ALF some 35 years ago\, he recognized a core component of the curriculum – and a core principal of good leadership – had to be an “appreciation and understanding of diversity.” ALF Senior Fellows have continually pushed the organization over the decades to deepen the dialogue and work around racism\, equity and inclusion. In just the last four years\, we’ve overhauled our Fellows program reading\, continued to build on Class and organizational diversity at all levels\, and gone on deep journeys with now three CEO Diversity\, Inclusion\, Equity and Liberation cohorts. We are getting smarter together so that we may lead better. \nALF’s work around racial equity continues to evolve. Thanks to a generous Leadership Circle gift from Silver Lake\, ALF will be expanding our work of facilitating groups and evolving curriculum and networks to move the needle on racial equity. \nAs an inclusive organization looking to access the wisdom of the network\, We want to hear from you. \nWhile some of you have shared how ALF can help in this arena\, we want to invite additional input from the Senior Fellows network as we create an action plan for the next twelve months. We want to know how ALF might be able to assist in your learning journey and/or your work as it relates to racial justice\, inclusion\, and equity. \n***Zoom meeting link will be shared just prior to the event***
