Interim CEO, ALF Silicon Valley / Former President & CEO, National Audubon Society

David Yarnold, a longtime journalist, bestselling author and non-profit executive is the interim CEO for American Leadership Forum Silicon Valley. He will occupy the role until a new CEO begins.

As the former Executive Editor of the San Jose Mercury News and CEO of the National Audubon Society, among other roles, Yarnold brings to ALFSV local knowledge and experience at some of the most storied non-profits in the U.S.

Yarnold spent nearly 27 years at the San Jose Mercury News in 12 roles. He was a leader of the newsroom staff that won a Pulitzer Prize for its coverage of the Loma Prieta earthquake and he and writer Daniel Vasquez were finalists for the Pulitzer Prize in editorial writing. Yarnold also was recognized by the Asian-American Journalists Association, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and the National Association of Black Journalists for his leadership creating more inclusive news coverage and newsroom staffing.

He is the author of the best-selling book: “The Geography of Hope; Real-Life Stories of Optimists Mapping a Better World.” The book, published in October, 2024, tells the stories of people around the world using geospatial mapping technology (GIS) to create social change and enhance profitability.

He also serves on the board and executive committee of the Computer History Museum.

David Babulak is the Managing Member of Strongpoint Holdings, LLC, an investment company focused on real estate, public markets and private companies.

Dave’s philanthropic efforts are focused on local organizations working to make Silicon Valley a better place for all. A longtime supporter of Second Harvest Food Bank, he served on the board for eight years and remains on the Finance Committee and Facilities Expansion Committee. He is also donor partner at SV2.

Dave served as an Engineer Officer in the United States Army and holds Engineering degrees from the University of Michigan and Stanford University.

Dave and his wife relocated to the Bay area from Chicago in 2009 and currently reside in Los Altos. Outside of work, Dave can be found in his basement gym or hiking in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Mica Eades Mayo stands out as a dynamic executive operations and finance powerhouse with a penchant for driving revenue growth and transformation and inspiring people with her storytelling superpower.

Mica has over two decades (of experience) in the hyper-innovation, high-tech sector with industry legends and darlings like Sun Microsystems, Oracle, Juniper Networks, and ServiceNow.

After earning her MBA in Finance from Cornell University, Mica returned to Silicon Valley to rise and shine amidst the dot com revolution of Sun. She then found her calling working alongside sales in the Go-To-Market function, accelerating time to revenue and expanding lifetime contract value.

Most recently, Mica steered the lead-to-cash digital transformation at ServiceNow, helping to fuel the rocket ship from $2B to $10B ARR in 5+ years. Mica currently serves as an industry luminary and an advisor to Aviso AI.

Kim served as HP Inc.’s President, Strategy and Business Management (2019-2020) and Chief Legal Officer (2015-2020). In this role, Kim led corporate strategy and development, sales strategy and operations, customer support, indirect procurement, real estate and workplace functions, and enterprise digital strategy and transformation. In addition, Kim managed the worldwide legal organization, including all aspects of legal and government affairs, brand security, compliance and ethics.

Prior to joining HP, Ms. Rivera served as the Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary for DaVita HealthCare Partners, a Global Fortune 250 healthcare services company. Previously, Ms. Rivera was the Chief Compliance Officer and Head of International Legal Services at The Clorox Company, where she also oversaw labor and employment counseling and litigation. Before joining Clorox, Ms. Rivera served as Chief Litigation Counsel for Rockwell Automation as well as General Counsel for its Automation Controls and Information Group.

Passionate about giving back to the community, Ms. Rivera has served on numerous non-profit boards including the California Latino Community Foundation and the Denver Metro Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and she is a current member of the Leadership Council On Legal Diversity Board. She is a frequent speaker on diversity and inclusion in corporations and the legal profession, with emphasis on women in leadership.

Rebecca Vermeulen is an accomplished healthcare leader with extensive experience in Medical Communications, Patient Partnership, Digital Health, and Six Sigma. Currently, she serves on the board of the Genentech Patient Foundation and is a board member for Patient Focused Medicines Development (PFMD).

Rebecca has demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing patient inclusivity and has established global standards for engaging with healthcare professionals and patients. Rebecca has held significant leadership roles, including Chair of the Global Board of Directors for the Drug Information Association (DIA) and Chair of the Global Board of Directors for the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association (HBA). She currently serves as a Chair Emeritus for the HBA. In 2020, she was recognized as one of the 100 Most Inspiring People in the Life Science Industry by PharmaVOICE.

Sharon Binger is a Managing Director, Chief Compliance Officer and Head of Litigation of Silver Lake, the global leader in large-scale technology investing. In her role, she oversees a team of compliance professionals and is responsible for administering the firm’s compliance program worldwide and overseeing the firm’s litigation.

Prior to joining Silver Lake, Sharon was at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, where she served as the regional director of the Philadelphia Regional Office, administering the Commission’s enforcement and regulatory programs for the Mid-Atlantic region. She began at the SEC in the enforcement division as an attorney and later served as an assistant director of enforcement in the New York office.

Before joining the SEC, Sharon was a senior litigation associate at Willkie Farr & Gallagher in New York. Sharon serves as a Trustee of the Board and Chair of the Governance Committee of Woodland School, a K-8 independent school in Portola Valley, California.

A seasoned Fortune 100 technology and cybersecurity executive, Eddie has a track record of transforming organizations, streamlining operations, and driving innovation that improves healthcare delivery and payer efficiency.

Beyond the enterprise, Eddie is deeply committed to giving back. He serves on nonprofit boards, including HITEC (Hispanic Technology Executive Council), where he champions mentorship, leadership development, and access for underrepresented communities in technology. He is passionate about helping the next generation progress “from the classroom to the boardroom,” with a particular focus on supporting veterans, underprivileged youth, and the Hispanic community.

Cynthia Bright is an inspirational leader, strategic advisor, and bridge builder.  She is adept at handling all manner of legal disputes, including enterprise-wide class actions, patent litigation, employment disputes, internal investigations, and whistleblower concerns. 

Cynthia has over 20 years of experience with in-house legal management at technology companies, including HP and Atmel Corporation. She has led teams to be at the forefront of adopting new technologies.  She started her career in regulatory and legislative matters in health care in New England.

Cynthia has served on four non-profit boards, including on the board for a legal services non-profit for our nation’s veterans and for an independent K-8 school during COVID.

Cynthia earned a degree in Government from Georgetown University and a law degree from Georgetown Law Center. Cynthia is from Texas and spent 10 years on the East Coast, in Washington, D.C., and Boston. She enjoys spending time outside and in the mountains.

She is the President and Co-Founder of Vector Holding Group, a purpose-driven business consulting firm that partners with Fortune 500 clients on strategic transformation across their supply chains, marketplaces, and merchandising. Previously, Tina served as Chief Operating Officer of Overland-Tandberg, a multi-national cybersecurity solutions company with a presence in over 90 countries. She started her career as an electrical engineer at AT&T, Texas Instruments, and Deloitte.

Tina is a passionate advocate for financial literacy and the leadership development of young girls. Her leadership philosophy—rooted in “Love Leadership”—combines corporate excellence with deep compassion, aiming to awaken full potential in people and organizations.

Melissa Cerezo, AICP (she/they), is a city planner skilled in strategic planning, civic engagement, urban policy, and public-private partnerships. She began at the NYC Department of City Planning during the Bloomberg Administration, leading a 90-block West Harlem rezoning, and facilitated institutional expansions, as well as improvements to the city’s Privately Owned Public Spaces.

Since joining the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) in 2017, she has revitalized partnerships with high-growth cities, ensuring transit investments thrive alongside complete neighborhoods. She serves on city and county-wide planning task forces and frequently speaks on innovative transit-oriented communities.

Currently, as the Transit-Oriented Communities Manager at VTA, Melissa champions inclusive growth, community resilience, and sustainability, uniting local agencies, community groups, and stakeholders to co-create people-centered transit-oriented communities.

She is a member of ALF Urban Class XXXVIII, serves on the AAPI Caucus leadership team, co-leads the Power of We Initiative, and lives in San Jose with her wife and two children.

Kevin Cook is President of Sutter Health’s Greater Silicon Valley, overseeing two hospitals, and the Palo Alto Medical Foundation. He joined Sutter in June 2023 from Caldwell Butler, a healthcare consulting firm specializing in operational improvement, staffing optimization, and patient experience, bringing more than 20 years of healthcare leadership experience.

Previously, Kevin served as Chief Operating Officer at Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System, a five-region, 10-hospital system in Louisiana and Mississippi. He was also CEO of the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s health system for 7 years, and held leadership roles with Mercy Health in Ohio and Pennsylvania as a hospital COO and regional CEO.

Kevin serves on the Board of the Council of Teaching Hospitals at the Association of American Medical Colleges. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Hobart College and an MBA from Boston University and is a former Major in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Earlier in her career, she lived and worked in the Netherlands, where she was General Counsel of New Skies Satellites, and in Washington, D.C., where she served on the staff of Senator Edward M. Kennedy and worked in private practice.

Currently, Mary works as an executive coach and serves on corporate and non-profit boards, including the boards of All Five, Commonwealth, and the Stanford Institute for Research in the Social Sciences. Mary participated in ALF Class XXV and joined the ALF board in March 2020.

David received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in 1980, received his JD from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1992 and joined the County of Santa Clara in 1994. David is an advocate for advancing social justice and equity in the criminal justice system.

As an administrator, he worked collaboratively with the district attorney, law enforcement agencies, the courts, probation, county executive, board of supervisors, community-based organizations, and other justice system partners to find ways to improve efficiency, reduce disproportionality, and reduce recidivism with the goal of enhancing public safety and justice.

Tom Giles is the executive editor of the global technology team at Bloomberg News. He previously served as managing editor of U.S. company news and team leader for U.S. technology. Tom was also the editor of Businessweek.com’s Technology channel, based in Silicon Valley.

Before joining Businessweek.com in 2005, Giles was deputy technology team leader at Bloomberg News, where he spent more than eight years, with stints in New York, London and San Francisco. He holds a master’s degree in international affairs from Columbia University and a B.A. in politics from Princeton University.

As a lifelong cultural worker, Anjee has led transformative efforts at MACLA to build organizational capacity, secure a permanent facility, launch a youth digital media lab, and deepen program engagement while ensuring artistic excellence and community relevance. Serving as MACLA’s Executive Director since 2008, she is interested in the intersection of arts and culture in movement-building work, aiming to reimagine what is possible. She contributes to this crucial work by serving as a frequent advisor to the cultural sector and the philanthropic community. Her areas of expertise include fundraising, financial management, creative placemaking, commissioning artwork, capacity building, program development and evaluation, as well as economic and real estate development.

In 2024, Anjee was recognized with the Power 100 Award, highlighting 100 leaders making the most significant impact in the region, and in 2009, with the 40 Under 40 award, both presented by the Silicon Valley Business Journal. She is a senior fellow in the American Leadership Forum Silicon Valley Class XXXVII. She currently serves on the boards of the Silicon Valley Council of Nonprofits, the San José Downtown Association, and the Peer Advisory Council of the National Performance Network. Jon is employment law counsel for Netflix primarily focused on domestic advice and counsel and litigation. Prior to joining Netflix, Jon was senior corporate counsel at Cadence Design Systems, Inc., a leading electronic design automation software and engineering company. Jon provided employment advice and counsel and managed litigation.

Before Cadence, Jon practiced at Hoge, Fenton, Jones & Appel, Inc. in their employment law group. He focused on counseling mid-size and large Silicon Valley companies on employment matters, including trade-secret protection, employee discipline, investigations, employee handbooks and policies, employee agreements, tax matters and advocacy, employment class-actions and general litigation. Jon litigated cases in state and federal courts; as well as before various governmental agencies.

Jon graduated with honors from University of California, Berkeley with a B.A. in political science; and the University of Southern California, Gould School of Law. Jon is a member of Class XXXI.

Kelly Porter is the Lead Managing Partner of Woodside Capital Partners, a 30-person, global M&A and strategic financing advisory for technology companies, headquartered in Palo Alto. He has participated in dozens of transactions, including financings, acquisitions and IPOs. He is also the organizer of MASiV: The M&A Silicon Valley Gathering, the most exclusive conference of top corporate development executives from the largest internet, software, mobile, technology and entertainment companies.

Prior to Woodside Capital Partners, Kelly was Managing Partner of a Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm, ZAP Ventures, where he invested in 22 companies. Prior to ZAP Ventures, he held positions as Chairman and CEO of CatchTV, an interactive TV software firm (acquired by Liberty Media/ACTV); Executive Vice President of InterActive Corp/HSN-Home Shopping Network; Vice President of Fox Cable Networks in Los Angeles; Media Planner at Ogilvy & Mather Advertising; and Director of Business Development at Seltel, an advertising network.

Kelly is a native of Palo Alto, CA, earned a Masters as a Sloan Fellow at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and earned a Bachelor’s degree from the Annenberg School of Communications at the University of Southern California. Saleem Qadir is a senior technology and operations leader with over 20 years managing mission-critical systems across government, aerospace, healthcare, and global commerce.

Beginning as a commissioned US Air Force officer supporting space operations, Saleem advanced to leadership roles at eBay/PayPal during their rapid growth, scaling global platforms for millions of users. At NASA Ames Research Center, he directed teams in human systems integration and high-performance computing for next-generation aerospace simulations.

A committed Ahmadi Muslim and father of three, Saleem balances professional excellence with extensive volunteer service in the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community at local, regional, and international levels.

At ESO, Saleem applies this diverse experience to drive resilience, automation, and customer trust while leading complex transitions, including cloud migrations and legacy system modernization.

Heather Rangel is the US Technology Sector Leader at Deloitte. She focuses on connecting and inspiring Deloitte’s clients and professionals towards impact in innovation and growth. Heather is passionate about technology’s disruptive effects on business models and supporting operations. She focuses much of her time exploring these edges.

Heather leads the global Deloitte account for a Fortune 500 technology company, where she drives strategic relationship management, addresses complex business challenges and nurtures positively disruptive ideas.

Heather is on the Board of Directors of a non-profit, Cancer Commons, an organization dedicated to uniting patients, oncologists, and scientists in creating a rapid learning platform for the delivery of precision personalized cancer care.

Heather is a frequent public speaker around topics related to women in leadership and digital disruption. She is a strong supporter of the arts, especially documentary filmmakers addressing the most important social and economic issues of our time. She participated in ALF Class XXXIII.

Kate Schuelke has more than 35 years of experience representing technology companies both in-house and at international law firms. She is the former Chief Legal Officer at Seagate Technology, a multinational manufacturer of data storage solutions, where she was responsible for the company’s legal, government affairs, and security functions. Prior to joining Seagate, she was Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary at Altera Corporation, during which time she helped negotiate that company’s purchase by Intel Corporation.

Kate began her career at an international law firm litigating intellectual property law, business, and securities class action cases.  She also worked at a European law firm where she counseled clients on intellectual property protection and business formation issues, and she was a Fulbright Scholar lecturer on U.S. intellectual property (IP) law in Poland.  She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from the University of Buffalo and received her Juris Doctor from New York University School of Law.

Kate currently serves on the board of directors of SiTime Corporation, a fast-growing semiconductor company listed on Nasdaq, where she chairs the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee and is a member of the Compensation Committee.

Kate is a champion of talent and leadership development, and she finds great joy in mentoring and sponsoring others in their career journeys.  She is also a frequent speaker on leadership, corporate governance, and legal issues.

Leah Toeniskoetter is the President & CEO of the San Jose Chamber of Commerce. Her twenty-year career has spanned multiple industries – corporate, small business and nonprofit – and her community leadership roles have delved into differing sectors that impact our daily lives including public health care, open space preservation, urbanism and civic engagement.

Previously, Leah lead Deloitte’s Social Impact investments for the Bay Area, served as SPUR’s founding San Jose Director, development manager of large real estate development projects for the family business in the South Bay and Northern California, financial analyst at Comerica Bank and Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (Bolivia).

She is an ALF Senior Fellow Class XXIV, Pacific Clinics Board Member, International Women’s Forum member, SPUR City Advisory Board member, and avid cyclist.

Executive Director, BAYMEC Community Foundation / Professor, San Jose State University

Ken Yeager has had a long career in both policy-making and as a leader in the LGBTQ community. Ken received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from San Jose State University and his Ph.D. in Education from Stanford University.

In 1984 he co-founded BAYMEC, an LGBTQ+ political action committee in the Bay Area that is still active today. In 1992, he was elected to the San Jose/Evergreen Community College Board, becoming the first openly gay official in Santa Clara County. He subsequently won election to the San Jose City Council in 2000 and the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors in 2006.

A long-time lecturer at SJSU, he returned to teaching in 2019. That same year he became executive director of the non-profit arm of BAYMEC, the BAYMEC Community Foundation, where he created the LGBTQ+ website QueerSiliconValley.com, curated an LGBTQ+ museum exhibit, and produced the documentary film Queer Silicon Valley.

Ken serves on the board of the Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST). Ken is a member of ALF Class VI.

Judge Erica R. Yew has served on the Santa Clara County Superior Court since 2001, where her judicial assignments have included a variety of court settings, including presiding over a dependency drug treatment court and other collaborative problem-solving courts. In her years as an attorney, Judge Yew was President of the Asian Pacific Bar Association of the Silicon Valley, served on the California State Bar Board of Trustees, Pro Bono Project of Silicon Valley, provided leadership to the Asian Law Alliance, the Legal Aid Society, the Silicon Valley Campaign for Legal Services, as well as having served on the Santa Clara County Bar Association’s Board of Trustees.

Judge Yew is also an educator, having taught classes on a wide spectrum of subjects, including judicial ethics, the elimination of bias in the court system, language access in the legal system, and the function and work of collaborative courts — and for a wide group of organizations, including the State Bar of California’s Center for Judicial Education and Research, Children and Family Futures, the Rutter Group, the California Judges Association, the National Center for State Courts, the National Judicial College, and the National Association of Drug Court Professionals.

She chaired her court’s Community Outreach Committee and its Legislative Liaison Committee.  In 2006, Judge Yew served on the California State Bar and Santa Clara County Bar Association Pipeline Task Forces on Diversity, and she established Santa Clara County’s first county-wide collaborative workshop program serving families dealing with domestic violence.  In 2010, the Supreme Court appointed Judge Yew to the Commission on Judicial Performance, where she served as a member until 2019, and as the Commission’s Chairperson from 2013 to 2016.

Judge Yew served as a member of the Judicial Council from 2009 to 2012 and currently serves on the Council’s Advisory Committee on Providing Access and Fairness.  She also serves on the Supreme Court Committee on Judicial Ethics Opinions to which she was appointed in May 2019. She graduated from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and received her bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
