American Leadership Forum Silicon Valley mourns the passing of two deeply valued members of our community, Senior Fellows Rich Braugh (Class XII) and Barry Del Buono (Class III). Each, in distinct yet profoundly aligned ways, embodied the spirit of service, leadership, and humanity that defines the ALF network.
Rich Braugh was unwavering in his commitment to American Leadership Forum Silicon Valley, generously lending his time, wisdom, and leadership over many years. Rich served multiple terms on the ALF Silicon Valley Board, including as Chair from 2005 to 2007. His impact extended beyond governance—he played a meaningful role in recruiting two former ALF Silicon Valley CEOs and was a key contributor to a countywide initiative supporting arts organizations. Rich’s leadership was marked by integrity, thoughtfulness, and a genuine care for people and community.
Reflecting on Rich’s passing, Interim CEO and Class XII colleague David Yarnold shared that when the news was shared with their class, the response was immediate and heartfelt. Rich was remembered as “a lovely, caring person,” known for his love of the outdoors, the arts, and, above all, his deep devotion to his partner.
Barry Del Buono passed away on December 26 in San Francisco, surrounded by family and loved ones. We are heartbroken by his loss, and at the same time deeply grateful for the care, friendship, and community that enriched his life and work. Barry devoted his life to service—through his early Catholic ministry, his decades of leadership advancing dignity and support for neighbors experiencing homelessness, and his years as a teacher and mentor. His life’s work reflected an unwavering commitment to compassion, justice, and human connection.
Barry once reflected, “I’m so used to the richness of knowing at the end of the day that even if my day didn’t go right, the doors of our shelters were open and people found shelter from the cold.” This sentiment captures the quiet, steadfast purpose that guided his life and leadership.
A memorial mass honoring Barry’s life will be held on January 16 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Cathedral Basilica in Downtown San Jose. In keeping with Barry’s wishes, all who knew him, partnered with him, and collaborated alongside him are warmly invited to attend. Additional information will be shared at barrydelbuono.com.
Rich Braugh and Barry Del Buono will be deeply missed by many across the American Leadership Forum network. Their legacies live on through the lives they touched, the communities they strengthened, and the values they modeled for all of us. We honor them with gratitude and hold their loved ones in our thoughts.
