The members of Class XLV gathered at Costanoa in Half Moon Bay for their Taking Stock overnight retreat. The session was an opportunity to reflect on each of their journeys over the past year—professionally and as a class community—and to consider how they choose to move forward as the head into their “graduation” in March.
“Taking stock” for Class XLV meant an extended, meaningful check-in, during which they shared reflections on inspirational figures in their leadership and personal journeys. They also spoke of those whom they had inspired and spent time considering how their connection as an ALF class had deepened over the year. There was both joy and reflection as they recalled their orientation and drumming day (nearly a year ago) and their wilderness experience last summer.
The first day of the two-day retreat ended with a contemplative walk to the ocean and, after dinner, a few hours by the fire making s’mores and conversation. The next day, they spoke again about their shared memories and how their time as Fellows would shape their future leadership and friendship.
Taking Stock is a reflection and a projection, and true to that spirit, Class XLV wrapped the session with a discussion about “belonging” to each other and looking forward to what they might accomplish in that spirit of togetherness.
Next up for Class XLV, the group will gather for one final session next month at the Mexican Heritage Plaza in East San Jose, where they will join us in welcoming the next ALF Fellows Program cohort from Class XLVI. Stay tuned for a formal announcement introducing the incoming class, to be made immediately following this occasion in early March!
